History of the Family Winery

Boada de Roa

In a rural environment where all lives are humble, the historical references of our family are lost in time. Already in the land registry of Boada de Roa, over successive decades, the same family names that currently exist appeared. For hundreds of years, for the Viyuela family and their neighbors, this place and its vineyards were their small great world.

Family of Winemakers

Our motivation has been wine for generations, and in 2003, the family decided to launch a high-quality project, within the framework of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin.

Rural Entrepreneurship

This is how the current Bodegas Viyuela project was born. With old vines, manual selection of grapes, and extreme care and love in crafting our wines, which are appreciated with every sip, every moment of pleasure, every experience… that's where we convey our passion for wine.

The Dream of the Viyuela Family

Gabriela Viyuela had always dreamed of having her own wine after a lifetime dedicated to working as winemakers, just like her past generations, until her children finally built a modern and functional winery. Located in the prestigious D.O. Ribera del Duero, our mission is clear: to produce wines of the highest quality and expression.

Andrés González Viyuela leads this exciting chapter as the winery's president. In 2003, we completed our first full harvest, marking the beginning of the Viyuela era. Three years later, in 2006, we launched our 2003 Reserva, thus completing our distinguished product range. This milestone also coincided with a significant renovation of our label design, a change that lasted for a decade.

Our incessant effort bore fruit when our Viyuela X Aniversario 2013 was awarded the prestigious Gran Zarcillo de Oro, the highest national distinction in the wine world. This award marked the culmination of a long list of national and international recognitions that have honored Bodegas Viyuela wines.

Today, our presence extends to more than 20 countries in Europe, America, and Asia, exporting our wines to the most demanding palates. Furthermore, we continue to garner praise from renowned institutions such as Decanter, James Suckling, and Wine Advocate, thus consolidating our reputation as benchmarks in the wine world.

  • As a wine importer with years of experience in the industry, I'm always looking for hidden gems that can delight our clients and elevate their tasting experiences. Recently, I had the pleasure of discovering a series of wines produced by Viyuela. It's hard to put into words how excited I am to have found these viticultural treasures.

  • From the moment I uncorked the first bottle, I was captivated by the elegance and complexity of their wines. Every sip is a sensory journey that carries the passion and care with which they were made.

  • The range of wines offered by Bodegas Viyuela is impressive in its diversity and quality. From fresh and vibrant whites to robust and structured reds, each variety demonstrates the team's commitment to excellence at the winery.
